Lucan's Motivational Speech

You stand in the coral reef outside the door, who's lock has just clicked loudly and fallen to the ground, throwing up a small cloud of dust into the water around it. You look at the twin statues of sea elven warriors, one bearing his gleaming trident and shield, while the other silently waits patiently throughout eternity for his. Lucan turns to everyone present and begins gesturing grandly, "My friends and allies, we have come upon the home of the Ring of the Waves. Let this day be known as the day that the Holy Warriors of Suffering adventuring troupe, Nan'lhach the esteemed master of bow and forest, Blue, the mysterious representative and servant of the mighty Anhur, Simon Bertrand, diviner and practioner of the Art, Dete Gardener, humble shieldbearer and scout, and myself, Lucan Thomas, humble servant of the Crying God Ilmater who with the assistance of Robhim, the quiet druid of the gardens, Lukas, who has turned away from the path of evil to join the righteous, Brennel, the, uh, noble Brennel, Dookette, the womanly drummer who inspired us to greatness, Wolfdale, who is every ready for battle even when unarmed, and Poon Cadmonson, the cleric brought the Ring back to the light of day to fight the forces of evil!

Dookette: It was a very sincere speech. Although not technically proficient the spirit and fire of the paladin's heart made up for any shortcomings in form. Although I disagree with his assertation that I am "womanly" I can understand how someone who is touched has difficulty seeing beyond the surface elements of his companions. All in all I would say the speech was "touching."

Lukas: Yes, sincere. And early too. We don't have the ring yet. The gateway was very interesting. It was a one way portal that led to "The realm of Deep Sashelas." AKA: A water realm. Possibly the Elemental Plane of Water.

Encountering the Dolphions

Lukas: Telepathic Gilled Dolphins. That's what the Dolphions are. Pretty nice folk so far. I just wish we actually had a sea elf with us. Poor guys, their prophecy gets fulfilled, and the fulfillers aren't even sea elves.

The avatar of Deep Sashelas

Greetings heroes, I am the avatar of Deep Sashelas and I have warded this chest to keep evil from it. I have made the wards very specific, so listen closely as this programmed image will not repeat. In order to be able to open the chest, you must be a native of sea and ocean, you must be a follower of mine or a friend to my people, and you must have an honorable heart. The only exception to this is the heroes quoted in the Prophecy of Mondar, the halfling ghost, the servant of wine, the slayer of the walking dead, the hidden flame, the seeker of the albino, the child of the garden, and the bringer of tides.

Dookette: Well. Becoming a creature of the sea was a strange experience. As was actually encountering the ring. It's still a bit odd having gills. It seems strange that among our party only Wolfsdale and I registered as good. Rhobiem and Brennel both seem noble, Rhobiem has gone to great lengths serving his god, and Brennel stands up against all sorts of creatures to protect others. Wolfsdale also seemed a bit too willing to resort to murder in Poon's case for me to be comfortable. But again I am no cleric and the vagaries of the god's judgement is the stuff of great poetics.

Lukas: After hearing a speech from the programmed image about the Prophecy of Mondar, we figured out that the "names" matched up with the prior adventuring crew. You know, Renn, Ruha and all of their friends. (Except Janus). Much about us was revealed in the test to determine who was worthy to undergo the ritual to open the chest to get the ring.

Only Dookette and Wolfdale were worthy. Robhim, Brennel and I were revealed as not having honorable enough hearts. Brennel is a bit of a surprise after the Purified Flamestrike Incident. Robhim is no surprise to me. He's never shown an inclination in either direction. (As far as I can tell.) And me? I knew already that I hadn't thrown off enough of velsharoon's taint.

And I still hate prophecies. If I get the chance, I WILL make sure this prophecy is broken, so that the 10 rings can't be used to start the Final Battle.

The Portal is guarded by a weapon of the "enemy"

Lukas: Well. At least the designers of these exits are consistent. A giant hulking guardian that is strong enough to kill people of our strength and experience easily.

Stupid Huge(?) Crab. It managed to kill Lucan and Dete. The rest of us made it by, but now we have funerals to attend to.

Hopefully, we'll not end up against such overwhelming challenges in days yet to come.

DM note: the guardian was a Siege Crab, MM3, CR ~11

Discussion with Alicia and Athos

Lukas: So Alicia arrived to help us out of Myth Drannor, the ancient elven city. She arrived with Athos, a one armed man. And I get called a moron because it was forgotten that I was temporarily blind, and had to ask why he needed specially tailored clothes.

She's given us some good (I hope) advice on how to keep from getting whacked by Talen. And plans have been made to keep Poon under control. Flesh to stoning someone for a day might seem bad. But it's pretty humane in comparison with other methods of keeping someone under control. I think that it is a "good" solution to the Poon problem for the day. We'll find out soon enough.
