Otto Oathout says that anything you write needs to contain the facts, and how you feel about what you're writing is one of the facts. So the fact is, I'm terrified. I'm sitting in the back of a stolen pickup truck, outside of a hospital in Tambury that's overflowing with patients, my hands shaking so badly I might not be able to read this tomorrow.

I might not be alive to read this tomorrow.

Let's start with the timeline of events.

On Tuesday, the Screaming Narwhals, myself, Zeb, Larry, and Jamie, lead by Alia Twigston, arrived in Tambury, intending to stay at the farm-house owned by the Glorious Turtle's tribe-leader. The next few days were a normal camping trip [nts: expand on these details in finished piece].

Friday, at sundown, things changed. Alia left the Narwhals at the camp, with the intent of visiting someone [nts: who? research this, investigate] in Tambury, and supplying at the grocery store. From their vantage in the camp, the Narwhals saw a series of explosions rock Tambury, followed by a series of power outages. [nts: what caused them? What WERE they? maybe something with transformers or whatever? RESEARCH] That was their first indication that that night was going to be anything different.

All of us were worried, but the first rule of a crisis is to find someplace safe and settle in. Since we were already someplace safe, we made up our mind to settle in. It was too big, too overwhelming to really grapple with [nts: yuck, that's awful wording, what are you even trying to say there? GRAPPLE?]

At approximately 9:30PM, the phone in the garage [nts: you didn't expand on the setting, this detail needs to be filled in in the setup!] rang. I picked it up, and for a brief moment, heard Alia's voice. Then the line went dead.

Less than fifteen minutes later, we heard the sound of a car accident along the road at the edge of the property. That gave us some motivation: someone might be in need of help. We also, again, were *terrified*, so it also gave us a thought of knocking on the neighbors doors. Just, y'know, having someone who can take control of the situation, call the police, whatever, that's what we needed. So we decided to violate the first rule of crisis: we went to give and get help.

At the intersection of the Michael Tambury Drive and Inverness Ave, we found the car accident. A firetruck was stopped in the middle of the intersection, and a compact car had t-boned it [nts: is that the right word? sounds unprofessional, maybe revise] with such force that the car had nearly disintigrated. There were no passengers or firepersons at the scene, nor signs of injury. [nts: what signs of injury? blood spatter? Maybe say that]

There was no one at the accident to help, so the Screaming Narwhals turned to knocking on doors. People seemed to be at home, happy to answer, but that, honestly, is when things got weird. [nts: you are not H. Thompson, maybe play with that wording] The first two doors we knocked on agreed on a few things: first, that they had seen some reporting on a crisis in town on the TV; second, that it was nothing to worry about; third, that they could not see a firetruck in the center of the road with a car impaled on it. [nts: wait, you're trying to say that they didn't agree with your senses, so this needs to be more explicit, don't get clever with wording, just SAY IT]

Phones and Internet were down, but television was still working [nts: you didn't actually confirm that, you only had reports to that effect]. Thwarted in our quest to get help, the Narwhals returned to the camp to make plans.

Plans: set alarms on the property, wait for the morning, which allows us to move about in daylight [nts: expand on this, why wait, etc]

Disruption: alarm goes off, Alia returns, gravely injured.

With this disruption, all of our plans change. The top priority is to address Alia's wounds and get her to emergency medical care. Larry leads the wound treatment: he says that they're animal bites [nts: get info from L as to WHY he said that] like a large wolf. Jamie and Zeb "borrow" [nts: don't euphemize, be HONEST] the keys from the house, and we steal [nts: who IS the person who owns this place?] the pickup truck in the garage. As none of us have a license, but Jamie has the most experience, we drive carefully and cautiously to the nearest hospital. We pack Alia carefully into the bed, using mattresses and pillows to keep her from jostling much.

The hospital might as well be called Bedlam [nts: nobody is gonna get that reference, and you shouldn't make in, and wow, not a place for a joke, is that even a joke?]. It's chaos, so crowded that they can't admit visitors and can barely admit patients. Alia, as far as we can tell, should be okay, [nts: interview Larry, get a better vibe on what the doctor said] and for the moment, we just wait in the back of the truck.
