Getting Rid of the Sheriff

Einion: While we're debatin' whether or not ta take Marion's job, Crow has himself a bit of a situation. He's caught the eye of the local Sheriff, who is asking to come aboard and see how inspections are going. Fortunately, this is one of those times when Lamar's mouth comes in h-h-handy.

Putting his arm around the Sheriff, Lamar sweet talks him into some recreation at the local whorehouse. N-n-now Lamar keeps calling it a "Companion home", but givin' the situation of this 'burgh, its gonna be a straight up whore home.

Ben: Lamar deals with our sheriff problem by taking him to the local "companion's" guild. What is the Alliance paying him anyway? He certainly likes to flash his credits around for a minor official in this backward sector of the 'Verse. Anyway, he takes care of a big problem nice and neat.

"We only take company scrip"

Einion: Myself, Crow, and the captain head out into town, leaving Lily behind to m-m-mind the vessel. Crow starts to get chatty and we learn that this is whatcha'd call a "company t-t-town", meaning they only take company coin.

Meanwhile, Lily has l-l-learned that a fella by the name of Du Bujac took over after Marion was ousted.

Ben: I head out to meet with Marion with Einion and Crow. Someone has put a terrible fright into the people here--everyone we meet looks like they're afraid of their own shadow. We start putting some details together about the place and none of them are good. I think we're doing right by helping Marion.

Dry River Saloon

Einion: Crow get a c-c-call from Marion, telling us to find a man named Grady, who will most likely be at the Dry River Saloon. As we walk in, I t-t-take note that the electrical wiring is incredibly inefficient. Crow and the captain start talking about how the locals aren't taking to us very well, b-b-but I'm paying them no mind. I plug in my drone and check the recharge rate in order to confirm my thoughts that t-t-this place needs an overhaul.

About this t-t-time, the captain is about to go talk to an unwelcoming bartender about Grady but I interject. I-I-I offer up my thoughts to the bartender on how he could run the place on half the juice that he's using n-n-now and the captain uses that for leverage to get the intel.

Turns out t-t-that Grady he one of the good guys, working extra shifts to cover for those who are havin' a hard time of things.

Ben: We try to make contact with Marion, but she tells us to find someone named Grady at the Dry River Saloon. We make our way there, but the locals shut up tighter than clams as soon as we walk in. Einion manages to win over the bartender by offering to fix up his rattle trap of a generator.

From what the bartender tells us, it sounds like Grady's a good guy. Einion and I wait for him to show up, while Crow heads over the Alliance outpost to exchange some credits for the local scrip they use here. We don't wait long before the call comes telling us there's more trouble.

Converging on the Alliance Output (Refurbished Bank) and Getting Surrounded

Einion: Since we've l-l-learned that the town only takes company script, we all start to converge on the refurbished bank this town calls an Alliance outpost. Crow and Lamar are the first to arrive and they find a nasty surprise waitin' fer 'em named Teng. Apparently she is some kind of assassin and she's not takin' kindly to Lamar. Color me shock'd.

Meanwhile, outside, the Sheriff has gathered with a bunch of his folk to surround the place. At this point, Lily shows up and gets herself hostaged. Fortunately folks being folk, they turn a blind eye to the doe-eyed shepherd and she catches up with the Capt'n and me 'fore we get there.

K-k-knowin' that the place is surrounded, I start to slow my pace and start pickin' up p-p-pieces of dried horseshit. I blend that with some stuff from my satchel and push it all inna tube and violá, makeshift bombs. Usin' the b-b-bombs to disperse the crowd a bit so we kin get in, the Capt'n and I make it inside. Lily however, gets herself hostaged, again.

Ben: Einion gets a text from Lily saying that the local authorities have the Alliance surrounded and Lamar and Crow are inside.

We rush over to meet up with Lily. There's a sheriff with about eight men outside the outpost, and we can hear shots fired inside. Einion scatters the sheriff's men with a few makeshift grenades and we rush for the door.

Inside the scene is a mess. There's a broken window and blood on the floor and walls. Lamar and Crow are both down. A woman pulls a knife out of Crow with one hand and clutches a wound with the other. She turns to face us and I put a bullet in her chest.

Before we can help Crow and Lamar, the sheriff's boys recover and they grab Lily. They order us to come out with our hands out. It looks like we're out of options.
