No armor until can afford wild armor that stays with you after shape change. Great Club with Shillelagh and Spikes... Character will become the party's "reliably can hit and deal damage against one target" character. I'd concentrate on keeping the to-hit bonus maximized. I strongly recommend power attack, since the system almost makes it necessary to deal damage properly when trying to overcome DR. DR/magic is going to be a killer in this campaign. --Mqs 20:51, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

And before I hear, "but that's Belos...", it is now. But Belos is eventually going to be more of a battlefield control character, or that's the hope. --Mqs 20:52, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm considering giving him a level of Monk for Unarmed Strike plus Intuitive Attack feat (+wis on attacks) as well as for the +wis to AC.
I do not feel that would be a good choice. That's force his alignment to be LN, for one thing -- which kind of conflicts with druidic avenger's CN (CN's not a prerequisite, but strongly hinted at). Plus, improved unarmed strike is not terribly useful unless you'd keep with it for the increased damage dice. The wisdom bonuses elsewhere would help, but a feat vs armor for the same AC bonus? Shapeshifter forms have ever escalating level requirements. Do you really want to delay them? Remember that this druid will require physical stats and can't just put everything into wisdom -- the shapechange varient only gives bonuses; it doesn't replace the physical ability scores with those of the animal. Improved Unarmed would also be immediately replaced by the bite attack. --Mqs 21:05, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

He can afford to have at least some basic armor for when he is not shapeshifted or if there is a circumstance that prevents it. Take note that shillelagh only works on clubs or quarterstaffs, not just any wooden weapon. Also, at 4th level the druid will be striking as magic in shapechanged form and gains some enhancement bonuses, so it may soon become preferred. Shillelagh and a quarterstaff so he can get some nice two handed swing bonuses in there can't hurt.

If monk is taken he could then flurry of blow his natural attacks. This is put into detail in the Ssethergore book. This may also be a good option since bare minimum wild armor would cost 64,000 GP with the current price hike and armor having to be at least +1. If removing the +1 requirement the price is now 36,000 GP. This would leave him waiting for armor til 9th - 11th level as well as this being his only real notable item of use. Not a great option according to your suggestion if you actually do the math.

A good race with the shapechanging variant is the Black Talon Ss'resen due to a natural armor bonus that will be maintained when shapechanging since shapechanging gives a bonus, not a new value. --Askewnotion 22:45, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Being unhelpful, heh. Don't think a melee druid is needed. Rather see need for spell/dd. If that's what Matt wants, totally ignore me. --Arz 14:45, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Starting to build

Chose the shapechange variant from PH2 for it's simplicity and flavor. He will be able to shapechange right out of the gate. Chose the spontaneous rejuvenation variant so that party can have a bit more healing. Still waiting to hear from Matt on some direction for feats, race, etc. --Randy (Talk) 13:49, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
