Disposable talk:Words of Power

Words of Power

Very good system, once you understand how it works. Fits very well for blaster-type casters but robs from more themed casters (such as druids). Works well as an option to mix with regular Vancian casting.

  • Needs more words. As written it has a good set of basics, but need some additions. Such additions would vary by campaign theme and player desires.
  • By merging words it reduces the need for Quicken, as you can can combine multiple lower level words. For example, during play a caster used a 4th level wordspell that combined Paralyze Humanoid (3rd) and Fog Bank (1st).
  • Overall the power level of the casters were on par or slightly lower than the usual collection of Pathfinder spells. For instance, Grease and Entangle cannot be replicated using Words of Power.
  • The Servitor (Summon) line of words proved to be very powerful as uses the Boost word on them allowed a caster to bring forth 1d4+1 summoned creatures, even at the highest level. This was the only broken word that was found.
    • It is especially powerful when combined with Superior Summoning that allows you summon one extra creature when you summon multiples.
    • Also, you can mix words to add buffs to summoned monsters.

Initiative each round

A nearly complete success. Rewards those with high initiatives and a character's place in the order gets evened out over time.

  • Only should be done if (1) it's rolled by app, and (2) is in plain view of the players so they know when they act each round.
  • Only drawback noted is that it requires constant attention to what is going on as your order is random. This could be viewed as a negative or positive, depending on your point of view. Personally, I want a player's attention to be on the table.
  • Players were completey engaged with what was going on because they didn't know exactly when they were going to have their turn next. This disposable had a large group, so that should be considered a win.

Critical Hit and Fumble Cards

Not many were drawn but when they were, they were loved.

Oh no, I know the difference, unlike Verizon. --Randy (Talk) 15:30, 26 September 2011 (EDT)
