Betrayal
Brilla: We were later rewarded by King Vrolmol with the boon of taking whatever we could carry from his treasury. Gretta escorted us along with a group of guards, one of them being her son. When we reached the bottom of the stairs she exclaimed "I'm sorry" and ran to the other end of the room. At the time icy hands reached up from all around is, grabbing the guards and taking them through the ice.
A battle ensued where we cleared out the hands as well we could. Most of them retreated back into the safety of the ice once our attack began. We took this opportunity to get to the other side of the room and confront Gretta. It appeared that she was under the thrall of an undead mammian (mammoth-formian).
The battle was eventually won and we reproached King Vrolmol. He was enraged to see the black vials we brought back up with us, the source of the enthrallment in key members of the community. As a reward for releasing his kingdom he made us voices of the king and gave us signet rings that let as act as his word.
We decided to wait until the glaciers were ready to break and we rode them down with the rest of the inhabitants to the town below, where we took some of the islanders as crew (evidently Deenar had to take care of some of the more evil less lawful ones), and took off to Library Island.
Nathaniel: Prompted by Bo, I revealed the unfortunate events that I was forced to do while cursed with "the ring". The King was forgiving and I was also granted his signet.
Sawfish
Brilla: Out boat was under siege by the most peculiar of creatures on out way to the island. A slight scraping sound could be heard from under the boat. As some of us went to look, we saw some hard scaled fish rubbing against the underside of the ship.
Bo proved invaluable to save the ship by communing with the small school of sawfish that first showed up, and his shark was able to scare off the larger one that eventually came to make a meal of out ship.
Nathaniel: Climbing on the side of a sailing vessel at full mast would likely be thrilling, were I still alive. The sawfish were nasty little creatures and I'm glad that Bo was able to get rid of the menace.
Great Library
R&R&R
Brilla: The island was absolutely fantastic. The wilding appeared to be at a lull here, and the beach was fantastic. It was a nice, dry heat that reminded me of the beaches of Baradin. I decided to skip on the rest and relaxation until my research into my family line was concluded. I figure that would be a very fitting reward for a job well done.
Nathaniel: Landing on library island I discovered that the Daltans had sent word that the tome I sought was found and ready for me to read. Being on library island, I was able to find a duplicate and began to read.
The tome told a story that cyclops existed, with great powers of vision. One cyclops existed for each race, and they were either exalted or feared by those around them. There was a story about a human (of sorts) cyclops who could see thru doorways and there was something else on the other side. Listed were also the locations of some cyclops.
One of the locations was Great Fortress, where it is rumored that a cyclopian harpy flew away south one day. I wish to return to Great Fortress to investigate, but Brilla wishes to seek a gate to Asheron, the plane of battle, and that gate is closer than my destination.
New Passenger
Brilla: Bo and Nathaniel were able to pick up a ghostly companion. They always seem to find the most interesting passengers.
Nathaniel: I discovered Bo in the library, looking disheveled. Reluctantly Bo told me that there was a ghost in the library who needed his story written down in order to move on. Knowing my dislike for books, he preferred that I not get involved. I assured Bo that my love of the story outweighed my dislike for the written word and I would gladly record the ghost's story.
The ghost regaled me with his tale, which ended with him being swallowed whole by a reptilian creature, pooped out alive and then fed to it's young. As the ghost finished his tale he faded out slightly for a moment. His tale was not properly finished. Something yet remained. Wishing to see his tale completed, Bo and I invited him on board our ship so that we might suss out the conclusion to his tale.
"Explosive Runes"
Brilla: My research is going well. I have discovered an ancestor by the name of Lord Venta. He was located post death in the plane of Acheron. He led an army to conquest another island. One of the scrolls said that he trained himself and the army in the ways of the divine for years until they were able to channel divinity to travel over the surface of the water.
There seemed to be some inconsistencies in these scrolls, and I hired a researcher to help me find more information. One of the scrolls looked promising, but when I read it the scroll exploded. At first I thought it was a prank, but a winged ogre-mage came down and demanded to know what happened. I told him of the explosive runes and he found the scribe responsible.
The scribe was not cooperative in telling me what was said in the now ashen scroll, so I used a wand of suggestion to tell me what it contained. Evidently Lord Venta hired a few necromancers to make his men better. He turned his battalion into undead that walked on the bottom of the ocean and then slaughtered their island they went to conquer.
The scribe was sentenced to death by my hand, but it was something that I felt unable to do. Rake was training our sailors in some sort of surf-coconut fighting, so I found that to be just punishment. Sadly, he found his death at the hands of Bo's shark.
Next Steps
Brilla: A trip to the island that the gate to Acheron is located sounds like the next stop. We have the location of this island and going here will also Killibron waiting a bit longer for our return.
