From Drinking and Dragons

I assume the usual avoid save or die spells? We really need to create a list of such things since "save or die" often includes more things than death. --Askewnotion 04:13, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

I believe that you just volunteered yourself. Save or Die Spells --Randy (Talk) 04:43, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Never did figure out how LA was supposed to work. Does the LA count against both tracks or just one? --Arz 16:51, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Both. LA is sub-optimal is gestalt. (Were this a campaign, I'd find some way to change that). --Mqs 16:58, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

How to resolve HP?

Roll or static amount per HD? --Randy (Talk) 04:43, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Fixed. --Mqs 14:56, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Bert

Randy, did you forward the detailed invite to Bert? --Mqs 22:02, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes. Have not heard from him. --Randy (Talk) 12:04, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
He has the flu but is very interested. I'll keep you updated. --Randy (Talk) 17:02, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Bert will not be coming on Sunday. Illness. --Randy (Talk) 20:13, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Foes

Random thought looking for your guys' input: Ogres are 4 HD of giant. Should those 4 base HD be gestalted with something if it advances by classes or not? (LA doesn't matter, since it's a foe and not a friend.)
Which of the following is a Gestalt CR 7 ogre? (CR3 + 4 levels advanced)

  • Giant 4, Class A 8, Class B 4? - max power
  • Giant 8, Class A 8? - medium power
  • Giant 4, Class A 4, Class B 4? - min power

When I previously used Gestalt, I did not do any advancing by class levels. I'm just wondering about your opinions. --Mqs 22:02, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

The thing is that the "medium power" really depnds on the type the creature is with the way you are doing gestalt. Fey wouldn't fair well while dragons would not have much to lose. You should go with the "minimum power" since that conforms better with your ideas of LA for PC's. --Askewnotion 00:01, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Consider monster "classes" in Savage Species. Ogre (p189) has six levels which could be gestalted with another 2ndary class. Okay, perhaps not a good idea, considering that Ogres are CR3... --Randy (Talk) 12:39, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Versions 1 and 2 are proper gestalts. The first is proper if you are advancing by classes, and the second if advancing by hit die. Obviously the racial hit die would be the primary class. --Randy (Talk) 14:06, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

"Proper" is relative and open to interpretation. Thus my questioning your opinions.  ;) --Mqs 14:30, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
The max power option just seems a bit high, and by nature, would give all monsters class levels equal to their HD to gestalt them, above and beyond what their hit dice would be. The same could be argued for the mid power option as well. With the massive HD that undead get, we can see where this can be a huge problem. My resolve is still in the min power for ease-of-play. --Askewnotion 15:58, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps if we built out all three options we could better compare? Also, what about intelligent undead (with their super amount of HD)? To me, this is a great example of the HD vs CR weirdness. --Randy (Talk) 16:30, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
My decision was already go go with the "minimum power" option, but I wanted to see what you guys thought. I also seriously contemplated "medium power" (they'd only get one class level, and always have their racial HD as primary), but decided against it. --Mqs 16:51, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Monsters

Interesting selection of monsters. Rage drakes never see enough play. You have also confirmed in my mind why I'll not be giving Brilla the ability to dispel.

Sorry about guessing a monster just from its move silent modifier and no description as well ^_~ --Askewnotion 16:11, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
