From Drinking and Dragons

I built it a tiny bit under powered for room to move it up. Remy's requests:

  • Up fly.
  • Boost saves.
  • Aid 1/day or extra Magic Circle.

There were a lot of bad save rolls for Splat, but more mobility and slightly higher saving throws definitely would have helped. Given all the limitations of Clumsy, I think the actual fly-speed should be closer to the Archon's number- it can go fast, but only in a straight line, and it can't hover- it just literally goes splat. It actually makes more sense to nerf its land speed, since a Latern Archon doesn't have one, and a grey ooze only has 10'. I kinda see it doing more: launch through the air for 60', splat into the ground, turn, and on the next round, launch another 60' feet (or whatever). --t3knomanser 03:26, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

The aura of menace will be a big problem for the whole party, as it's all hostile creatures in a 20' radius of the archon. Will even effect the undead in the party. --Randy (Talk) 02:38, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

I took that to mean hostile to the source, but you're right- it would apply to all creatures with an attitude of hostile. It does only have a 20' range, which should be easy to avoid. --t3knomanser 04:33, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Plus with the ability to fly and the sphere shape, it's effect on the battle field can be made into 15', 10', or 5' depending on how high up Splat is. --Randy (Talk) 12:34, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
I appreciate your attempting to nerf the ability, but it's only the foes. "Hostile" is a specific term in D&D (see diplomacy). Combine this with the previous sentence ("A righteous aura surrounds archons that fight or get angry..."). It's pretty clear that the aura only affects foes. --Mqs 13:48, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Gotcha. --Randy (Talk) 14:11, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Wouldn't the party have an attitude of hostile during combat? Not that I'm trying to disagree with you or anything. --14:53, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Attitudes are relative to an entity. The ogre might be "hostile" to you, but he's still "helpful" to his lord. Splat might be hostile to ogre, but he'll still be generally helpful to members of his group. --Mqs 14:59, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
That's how I thought it worked, but the SRD entry on Diplomacy didn't make it explicitly clear. Makes sense now. --t3knomanser 16:01, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Without that previous sentence, I would probably have it affect all thing, friend and foe. But with it, I'm led to this interpretation. --Mqs 16:08, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
