Prologue. 2045
Doddering Dr Dare's Death
Siati: From my perch a top the bookshelf I witnessed my human's death. I never expected that we would be attacked while my human lectured at Columbia University, but the timestream is filled with odd things. My adventures with Doddering Dr Dare have taught me that.
The doors were blown open—a sign that this was brute human work—and a man, bearded with a ballcap entered. I yearn for the days when murderers had the decency to wear a tie. Doddering Dr Dare says, "So you've finally come for me?" The man in the ballcap opens his jacket to reveal an infinite abyss and robotic/mechanical mice sally forth and slay my mentor.
Neferhotep Ordered to Create the Sphinx
(Randy's notes): Neferhotep was ordered by Ra to build the Sphinx as a sleep capsule until he was needed.
Sphinx. 1984
Saiti: Upon Doddering Dr Dare's death I was instructed, posthumously, to travel back in time to assist a Dorky Dr Dare stop whatever is causing trouble to the timestream. And so it is that I find myself in front of a younger, more naive, version of my mentor. I drop the note I was instructed to give him and proceed to take a long nap.
I wake up a while later to find Dorky Dr Dare trying to find a way into the Sphinx and I assist him. His knowledge of Mathematics are better than I would've guessed, though still crude. We wake Neferhotep and Dr Dare tells us both that Methuselah is behind what is going on!
Jersey. 1996
Siati: It is now obvious that Doddering Dr Dare prepared for this event and is sending us throughout his timeline in an attempt to gather a team who will be able to put a stop to what is going on. The companion who we find in 1996 is underwhelming. DonRon is a dog person.
I'm not the only person who DonRon rubs the wrong way. While Neferhotep has him lifted by the neck DonRon manages to slip him a literal Chill Pill and the situation is cooled off. I would've gotten involved, however I just settled into a nice patch of sunlight and didn't feel like it.
Herb's Mechanic Shop. 1922
Saiti: Our next stop is a mechanic's shop in the 1920s. We meet up with a service robot that Dr Dare ordered at some time in his life that got lost. The robot refuses to acknowledge its own true nature and loves Coca-Cola. It is at this point we are jumped!
A giant Werewolf, nearly 8 feet tall threatens Herb (the aforementioned robot) and there are swarms of metallic creatures. Dorky Dr Dare starts setting up a light refracting laser grid at a power level that would tickle a toddler. I do some quick equations, jump on Dare's arm, and enter them into this computer, thus boosting the power greatly. I swish my tail in his face and jump down, the bad guys defeated. Sadly the werewolf gets away.
North Dakota. 1939
Saiti:' The next place on the list is a rural town in North Dakota as a snowstorm is coming in. Out in the cold, we seek shelter at the nearest farmhouse and are welcomed in by Betsy and Harold. While the humans meow at each other I seek the hunt and begin to thin out the farm's mouse population with Neferhotep close by. He shows me the proper respect.
I see a human boy running through the snow, frightened like prey. I learn later that this is the famous William T. Joykill and that he has already made contact with the Globotrons. I somehow expected more.
As we get close the man in the ballcap appears and snaps Joykill's neck, an event that is sure to rupture the timeline. The man opens his jacket and once more monsters pour out, this time several raptors made of some metallic substance. Then he and Joykill's body vanish.
With a true fight on us I cry out to the local cats and they heed my call. We swarm the beasts, claws raking and teeth biting! At one point I feel the Mathemagics empower us and we are angry and air-borne, flying through the air and dodging gouts of fire from the mouths of the beasts.
The battle is ended when DonRon runs roughshod over the battlefield in a combine, taking out enemy and ally alike. Neferhotep reacts quickly to save our warriors but he is too late as he topples the combine.
The cost of this battle is high, as Dorky Dr Dare realizes that DonRon is almost as much of a problem as he is an asset. We return him to his own time.
