🐺 Ildefons and 🔥Mandrot Seek out Maude

🐘 One-Tusk and 🏹 Ehsan Look for Hernaut

🐘 One-Tusk: Waking up in the bibliotemple is a rough morning. The place is a mess, and the shadows play havoc with my nerves. But as unkept as it is, it's safe, and that's what matters. The fact that we wake up at all helps increase my trust for Simeon.

While Ildefons and Mandrot track Maude, Ehsan and I track Hernaut. There's no love lost, but our hope is to get his help fending off Condrol, who arrives tomorrow. It takes some work, but we find out he's being held at the Fosses de Nuit- the oilpits outside of town.

🏹 Ehsan: One Tusk and I take it upon ourselves to seek out Hernaut while Ildefons and Mandrot do their own hunt and to find Maude. It is agreed that this is to be an information gathering mission, but if the opportunity presents itself to be convenient to rescue Hernaut I do plan on taking it.

After some questioning of the locals it is discovered that Hernaut is being held at the oil pits while his execution is being set up in the city.

Freeing Hernaut

🐘 One-Tusk: Combustible materiel provides an obvious route for diversion, and in a way, I succeed at creating a diversion: I get the attention of the firewatch who are very aware and very invested in maintaining the safety of their workplace.

They're indifferent to one of their buildings being repurposed into a prison for the Hands of Liberty, and I can't fault them for that. My presence has gotten the HoL's attention, however, which results in a bit of a fracas. Ehsan, Hernaut and I escape with minimal ruckus.

We learn a few key facts from Hernaut: the Red Wolf Brigade turned him over to Maude, there's some connection there. The Liswayian dragon, is not dead but dreaming, and Hernaut, Rosalie, and a few others are pivotal to keeping it locked down. After dealing with his wounds, we make arrangements for Hernaut to vanish.

🏹 Ehsan: One Tusk provides distraction while I seek out Hernaut's exact location. After a bit of looking around I find the warehouse he is being kept in a spy through some a loose board to see that the former captain has been tarred and feathered and is manacled to the ground. His situation is very poor and he is currently being guarded, but with One Tusk close by and his distraction going well I feel confident and infiltrate through a window high off the ground.

A few well placed shots and the guards (along with the reinforcements) are quickly dealt with. I break the locks and between Mandrot and Ildefons Hernaut is brought to some semblance of consciousness, but he is in no state to remain in the war zone. We will need to get him out.

Reinforcements from the Pride

🐘 One-Tusk: Arkstone's main force is still days out. That doesn't keep an advance party from arriving, however- by "hot air balloon". As important as their arrival is, I can't help but be distracted by the possibilities for this sort of fast, aerial travel. Terrain is irrelevant. The speed is at least that of the wind, possibly more if you could propel it somehow. In the long term, the Trade Federation needs this technology. In the near term, I'm thinking through the strategic implications of it.

🏹 Ehsan: While One Tusk is negotiating with the workers of the oil fields some more reinforcements arrive making out silent escape a less likely option. As we prepare to deal with the oncoming force, a retinue of Pride soldiers come to the rescue just in time to cover our escape. We are in the clear for now, but still need to decide how we will destabilize the city to prevent this war from reaching Arkstone.
