The party grows a tail

While the party is in Ordulin's market district searching for a moneychanger to get the diamond dust to bring Lukas back from the dead, Wolfdale's keen eyes take note that the party has grown a tail, or rather two tails. Two men clad in armor and with an official bearing that proves difficult to hide have been following the party. A closer looks proves the men to wearing insignia of rank with the Silver Ravens.

A request for help...

When the party returns to the inn, they find that there is someone waiting for the party. A twitching man sits at the bar and his eyes shine when he spots the group. A raven sits on the bar in front of him pecking at peanuts. The man waves the party over with his old hand. Stringy white hair darts out from under his cloak.

"I was hoping that I would find your group here. I have heard of your exploits and would like to hire you for a dangerous task. The task involves an item of great power that is obscured by darkness. May we speak privately?"

Once in the private room, the man will introduce himself as Anthony Critchlow, a spellcaster from the north. "I have found the location of one of the three elven swords of the crown wars, powerful artifacts..."

Simon nervously asks if he may take notes and then writes a note to Wolfdale. "Lenore [Simon's familiar] cannot talk with Critchlow's raven. Danger."

...proves to be a deadly encounter!

With their cover blown, Critchlow and his raven reveal their true forms—barbed devil and imp! The imp jumps up and down, saying "Them! It's them! I told lord Levistus that I could find them!" Critchlow tells the party that Lord Levistus is determined to start the Great War and he will stop at nothing to get his general. "Tell me where the Nightbringer gem is and I will let you flee!"

During the ensuing combat—obviously the party did not surrender—the occupant of the room across the hall is alerted to combat. Being a veteran adventurer himself, he opens the door and lends his sword to the chaos inside, where it is raining holy water and blood is sprayed across the room.

Once the devils are dispatched, their bodies remain on the Material Plane, and this causes Simon much worry. The party quickly decides that it's time to leave when Captain Branislaw and his men enter the premises. After a rough interrogation the party is permitted to leave, but with a stern warning from Branislaw to leave the city soon or he'll find a reason to arrest them.
